Top 10 TV series for IT geeks

Everyone likes TV series, and interesting TV series doubly. We picked up just such ones for you – TV series for IT people, about IT people, coders and hackers. Traditionally, the series of IT-topics are divided into two types: “digital is coming” and “how it is hard for a geek to live”. Pick a genre that you prefer. In our collection there will be no “The Big Bang Theory”, which even your grandmother heard, but there will be a dark satire “The Black Mirror”, the surrealistic Swedish epic “Real People” and the novelty nostalgia for the Terminator – “The Man of the Future”.

Virtually the entire collection consists of the English-language series. Those who want to combine business with pleasure: look at the original language, enjoy the acting and improve your English.

Series are sorted by IMDb rating. With some of them you are probably familiar with some – no. Write your impressions and recommendations in the comments. Let’s go:

1. Black mirror

“A perverted parable for the Twitter era”

The British series is based on the script of the cult contemporary writer Charlie Brooker in his provocative satirist style. The first episode was released six years ago, and on December 4, the series celebrated its next birthday. The series consists of unrelated series. Place, plot, actors are every time new. Only black satire on our life remains unchanged. Brooker in his usual gloomy manner shows how deeply people are stuck in gadgets and what this leads to. Frequent comment by critics is a plot that “terrifies.”

Mini spoiler. Future. People live in single cameras with a huge TV.

Most are forced to pedal every day on exercise bikes to generate as much energy as possible. This energy changes to the currency of the future – “prizes” that can be spent on fast food, TV shows and games. All that is dear to people, and today. The main character who is the heir of millions of “prizes” spends them on the participation of the girl with whom he is in love, in a talent show. But instead of a brilliant future of a star the girl is offered to work in the porn industry.

Something like this psychedelic scenes occur in each series. Episodes are like a dream, it is not clear where it began and when this is all over. Viewers watch the characters as if through a window – every time a different life.

This is just a cartoon

Do not rave, big minds, there is not any key message about the harm of the Internet, the author is not trying to motivate humanity to correct or take thought.

This is just a cartoon. Such kind of a caricature of our dreams for the near future.

There are no complaints about the works of street artists from mentally balanced people (otherwise, why settle for a picture). To think about the parody or not – it’s up to you, not the author.

But it came out very successful and even bright in places, 10 three-dimensional projections of gophers out of 10.

2. Doctor Who

We don’t sacrifice people – this is wrong, because – this is easy.

Recently, there was the birthday of another TV series that pleases the audience for 54 years already. On November 23, 1963, the first episode of the legendary “Doctor Who” was shown on British television. We cannot call the series geeky or take it purely to digital, but the genre of science fiction and the love of technology allow it to be rightfully on our list.

The series was broadcast twice. The first time is since 1963 till 1989, the second time is since 2005 till the present. And in 2005, the seasons began to shoot from the very beginning. Each season includes 12-13 episodes and traditionally takes off the Christmas edition.

Sometimes you only have bad options. But you still have to choose.

– And that means we can be friends again.

– Do you really think so?

– I do not know. But the hope is such a dangerous thing. And so tempting.

12 Doctor and Missy

– We don’t donate by the people – this is wrong, because – this is easy.

Many years ago, sitting in front of a huge tube TV, I was aimlessly flipping through the channels, hoping to find a reason not to do homework.

And I switched to a funny lop-ear guy who, smiling radiantly, shouted to the fair-haired girl, “Run!”

So I met the Doctor.

Verdict

The doctor handles most problems with the word. Few of today’s popular heroes can solve a problem without mess up someone’s face, isn’t it?

In the beginning was the word. And the word is: “Run!”.

No TV series is so well-fixed on nostalgia as “Doctor Who”. No TV series is as inspiring for nostalgia as Doctor Who. Not one episode lasted as long as Doctor Who lasted.

Want to plunge into a fairy tale with an eccentric time traveler who will pick you up in his blue box on the edge of the universe?

Rather, run to watch the 2005 season with 9 Doctor. And in any case, do not miss the seasons. Yes, these are different stories and different faces.

But the Doctor is only one.

And always remember: The Doctor is lying.

Guys, whether I am some kind of retarded, or really a bit incomprehensible. The more I looked, the more questions appeared. I thought I would watch the last series and it will be clear, but fucking even more questions. I did not understand fucking. A lot of characters, though not disclosed. I do not even know whether to wait for the second season. But I will say one thing – the series is very depressing.

BadgerOo

Mr. Robot is a kind of cross between Fight Club and Card House and at the same time a rather average series for an amateur with a good soundtrack, camera work, good actors and a tattered script.

The main mistake of the series is in the unsuccessful attempt of the screenwriters to make a candy from the holed motive of a lonely person’s struggle against an evil capitalist society in the face of a mega-uber corporation of evil. Also in the series there are at least two completely illogical moments that do not fit into the structure of the plot (guess which ones). The rest of the series is very good and interesting. More so if the creators simply would have done a series about a crazy social-phobic hacker and would have stopped exclusively at his life and sores, the series would have been much better.

Just Mr. Robot pleases innovative submission of the picture somewhere, even in this regard, similar to Breaking Bad.

The first season is enough good. Now I watch the second season. He is worse and more boring. There is a possibility that the series will rush down.

The Tale of Startuppers’ Life

After the Big Bang Theory began to rush down into the abyss of self-repetition and “soap opera”, I decided to look for something similar, and came across Silicon Valley, which definitely deserves a viewing.

The series tells about life in Silicon Valley, the place where the most high-tech companies in the world are concentrated. The central characters are the four startuppers and the owner of a business incubator, in which they try to give birth to their brilliant ideas. Basically, the series makes fun of startuppers and corporate culture in the IT field, but you shouldn’t worry if you are unfamiliar with all this “IT kitchen”, humor is mostly common for funny situations that are shared by heroes. Unlike many other comedy series, where each series is a separate story, Silicon Valley has a single story, which is a definite plus. Another advantage is that the creators manage to make the viewer worry about the characters in almost every series, putting them in situations that do not always end with a happy ending.

At the moment, there are 3 seasons. All of them were about the same level, which cannot but rejoice. HBO (the channel that produces Silicon Valley) continues to hold the title of “Best Channel” releasing, so the year, such high-quality products.

We look forward to continue!

5. The IT Crowd

“Listen, I know that this place looks like a dump, but in fact it is a sensitive ecosystem.”

One of the most successful TV series about geeks was published back in 2006 in the UK. The series uses the sitcom format. Episodes in the best traditions of the industry were filmed in front of the audience, so in the first two seasons there was offscreen laughter. The name of the series comes from the name of the song The-In-Crowd, the hit of Duobi Gray in 1965, which sang about the difference between the lives of the main characters and other people.

The script was written and directed by the famous comedy writer Graham Lineham, who repeatedly received awards for the best television comedies: Father Ted (IMDb rating 8.6) and Black Books (rating 8.5). “The IT Crowd” are simply crammed with subtle geek humor, for which they have been loved since the first series. New episodes of the series were distributed through torrent’s channels a couple of hours after the official broadcast. Unfortunately, the release of the series was completed in 2010, but now you can enjoy a full set of episodes, without waiting for the release of new ones.

Mini spoiler: A large corporation employs two technical support employees. They are real geeks in the best sense of the word: IT gurus and complete laymen in everyday life. Technical support is sitting in the basement and quietly despises the rest of the team. By the way, it’s mutually. The chief is appointed to them. Unfortunately, this is a girl who does not understand IT at all, but she was able to convince the senior managers to appoint her to this position. It remains to determine the degree of mutual sympathy between geeks and the new Miss Boss.

Who plays: Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson.

 The IT Crowd

Interesting Facts

1. The whole series is saturated with geek culture: music, books, posters, clothes, words and so on.

2. Graham Lineham wanted the music to be similar to the works of Gary Newman, king of synthpop, and, as the composer of the series Neil Hannon recalls: “After the 15th attempt, I succeeded.”

3. In the series there is a parody of the numbers of reference services in the UK. In 2003, they were changed from three-digit to six-digit numbers. The ad says that the rescue phone number changes from 999 to 0118 999 881 999 119 725 3.

4. The episode “Smoke and Mirrors” shows the 2006 incident named Guy Goma Incident. Its essence was that a live speaker at the BBC was a man who was mistakenly invited instead of a well-known IT specialist. Just mixed up the name.

5. In the episode “Are we not men?” a spectator sits behind Roy and Moss at the stadium with the USSR inscription on its chest.

This thing helped to survive during work hours by shifts on the oil and gas fields. The programmers themselves recommended it, as that is their home-ground. Yes, we roaring. No, we were laughing.

– Have you tried to turn it on and off?

– If in the Google print the Google you can break the Internet..

For a long time, then we made fun with these phrases.

Eia

Stupid but funny.

It is a silly, but funny series. This is ideal for an evening with a beer or for boring work, so that there is something for the background. Often, I just laughed at the whole house, although this is a flat and stupid humor, but nevertheless, when you are tired of the work day, this is the best option, it is very relaxing. The only thing that seems to me is that this series was shot too old, as for 2006-2013, especially for 2013. It seems that you are like in 2000 year. Although there feels purely English in spirit.

6. Halt and Catch Fire

Progress depends on how we change the world for us.

The creators of the series Chris Rogers and Chris Cantwell released four seasons about the history of the development of the IT industry of the 80-90s. The series is interesting because it tells about the time of the rapid development of computer technology, when all of today’s IT-monsters were born. The creators managed to convey the exact atmosphere of that time, not only the correct subject entourage, but also the corresponding mood of the characters. They perfectly conveyed that tension, when a premonition of future revolutionary changes in technology hung in the air, and everyone believed that they were creating the future. It is based on existing historical figures and situations, which additionally brought realism to the plot.

He will have to create a team, conduct tough negotiations and confront monster corporations. The team, as usual, is charismatic. At the origin of digital achievements

(Halt and Catch Fire is a team of software code that runs all installed programs in the most active mode, as a result of which they are recognized to maximize computer resources)

Few people think about people who have once worked the technologies that we now have in an improved form. Few TV shows cover the activities of innovators and supporters of the Great Idea, which can shake the world.

“Halt and Catch Fire” is one of such projects. It was passed without loud applause, which did not declare itself as a contender for the main serial nominations; it still won the hearts of a certain audience of viewers.

“Future Man” is one of the hottest series. The premiere took place on November 14th. rinatkhamatov

Humorous series in slightly vulgar style

It is a quite good seven-hour film, in which they mostly parody the original dilogy about the terminator James Cameron. All the classic scenes, characters and fantastic moments available:

·        time travel

·        meeting with bikers like “I need your clothes, your boots and a motorcycle”

·        the main character strongly resembles the symbiosis of Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor

·        partner of the mentioned traveler reminds the Terminator in almost all

·        the protagonist – of course, “licked” with John Connor.

Along the way, a whole separate series is devoted to James Cameron, where, with humor and sarcasm, the authors of the series acquaint the viewer with numerous references to the director’s works of the cinema master.

Personally, I liked the plot of the tape in the style of “Back to the Future”, a pleasant soundtrack and nostalgic notes that refer to old films. This is already noticeable from the posters for the series which, by and large, is somewhat similar to the successful project of Netflix “Strange things.”

Only in this film, not horror films parody, but fantastic action films, and sometimes psychedelic scenes unfamiliar to me.

8. StartUp

The diamond idea … Must be funded with dirty money.

“StartUp” is a crime series released on the Crackle channel. The channel is owned by Sony and is an online cinema with paid access and an extensive library of video content. A few years ago, the channel began filming its own series, the most famous of which are “The Chosen” and directly “StartUp”.

The series did not attract much attention of the press, although it has a good IMDb rating, a serious budget, a popular topic of cryptocurrency and the selection of famous actors. Channel management had hope and strived with the help of “StartUp” to compete with other similar channels Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, in order to win the “battle for content”.

It’s a suddenly vigorous series. I have watched for two days, I was so drawn in. I liked the dialogues with meaning. The plot had of course a little humor, but apparently, the creators did not plan a comedy.

9. Real people

“Fall in love with a toaster.”

The series of Swedish scriptwriter Lars Lundström is imbued with the spirit and ideas of Isaac Asimov: what people are and what robots are and who has the right to be called a human being. Whether all of those who were born human have the right to be human, or are some robots more humane? The series does not give an unequivocal answer to these questions, leaving much to the discretion of the viewer and making you think.

The idea of the plot immediately was liked by the representatives of the film industry, and the rights to produce a version of the series in America were bought back before the series began. Also, the rights to produce an adapted plot were acquired, according to some sources, by fifty countries, one of which began broadcasting its own version three years ago. “Real people” existed only two seasons, although fans expected the release of the third and subsequent ones.

It is not surprising that sometimes people fall in love with beautiful hubots. Another dramatic line is the fate of robots who live on the run. They are highly developed intellectually and cannot serve people. They are hunted by aggressive opponents of robots, who consider hubots as evil.

Who plays: Mary Robertson, Eva Röse, Andreas Wilson.

Doctor s.x.

Fall in love with toaster

The Swedish series probably describes the most lively problem of modern society. Modern people are so dependent on different gadgets that they no longer can stop and constantly invent more and more sophisticated technical means for the sole purpose – to make their lives easier.

During viewing many times I caught myself thinking that I was experiencing and sympathizing with these machines.

The series is quality and exciting, well done Swedes. Keep it up!

10. Scorpion

“You have come to the right place” (Scorpion Computer Services Slogan)

The series is based on real events and has a prototype – Irish IT-businessman Walter O’Brien. Walter also acts as the creator and executive producer of the “Scorpion”. Despite the fact that, with enviable consistency, the connection of plots with real life is emphasized, the tricks that the characters perform are seemingly fantastic. Nevertheless, if you do not find fault with the plot and perceive the series in the spirit of “this is a movie!”, you can enjoy a great product. It has it all: great actors, adventure genre, action shots and love stories.

A robot with human firmware

First, I will immediately draw attention to the cast. Just perfectly matched the main characters!

Secondly, the unreality of current events sometimes fascinates. It is clear that half of the extraordinary decisions of the team in principle is unrealistic, but to observe how they turn everything around is cool.
